“What is the meaning of this nonsense?”

“Are the rumors true?”

“Is that even allowed?”

“Wow! A wolf shifter as our High Witch’s fated mate?”

“I saw him and a bunch of other mongrels strut inside of our coven led by Anala of all witches!”

“And they’re lurking around here like they own the place!”

“How did the Northeast Coven react to the news? What did Rupert say?!”

My wolf senses allow me to hear every spoken word members of Sage’s coven utter despite me being in the room behind the High Witch’s dais.

My wolf growls at each insult. An occasional remark by a member who sounds supportive brings me hope. Typically, the older witches complain while the younger ones appear more open. But with them being Immortal Witches, it’s hard to distinguish who’s of what age. Only their comments help to differentiate one group from the other.

I glance at Sage.

Showered and freshly dressed in an aqua blue suit with a pencil skirt and flesh-tone heels, she exudes power and beauty. She explained as an elemental witch of water, the colors of the ocean—the largest body of water—emphasize her connection to the element. My chest fills with pride to see her claiming bite uncovered. An unspoken acknowledgment to all our status as fated mates.

When we arrived ahead of the coven, she asked for space. Now, she sits on a chair with her eyes closed. A serene expression set on her lovely face as her mouth moves soundlessly.

My wolf and I stand not too far from her, keeping one eye on our fated mate and the other on the door leading to the coven’s grand hall. Tag stands beside me while two of my men stand at the door leading to the hall and the one leading to Sage’s private entry and the elevator for her family’s residences. Several other enforcers cover areas throughout the floor and outside her penthouse duplex. Others remain on standby in vans outside of The Waters Tower. My wolf and I will protect my fated mate at all costs.

Even though Sage told me she heightened the level of protective wards around us, her sisters, and Anala—even though she’s in New York. Sage’s powers know no bounds.

However, the Alpha in me demands I have a hand in her safety. I also spoke with Garrett Moen—Alpha of the New York Wolves Pack—to not only monitor Rupert, but to watch Anala’s back. Whatever may hurt my fated mate falls under my purview.

My gaze shifts to Willow and to Lillie across the room. That includes her younger sisters. I assigned enforcers as their security detail. Although they denied needing protection because of their powers, I insisted. Sage told them to just give in like she did with her new detail. They agreed for now. I chuckled to myself and thought forever, little ones.

Lillie senses my eyes on her and lifts her gaze to mine. She arches an elegant eyebrow. I shake my head and turn back to my fated mate.

She stirs, then her emerald green eyes open.
